The Octagonal Bergére

This octagonal Bergère is made for those who want their furniture to command attention, a piece of functional art.

On the Edge of Autumn

It knew the moment seasons lean,
when gold outweighs the once-bright green.
Of heavy fruit and lengthened shade,
of warmth that lingers, half-afraid.

On the edge of autumn, poised in glow,
it witnessed summer’s gentle end.
Now changed, renewed, it waits — and knows
all endings turn — and rise again.

The chair is hand-painted in a warm autumnal rhubarb, layered with trailing florals and twisting vines drawn from nature and memory. Subtle touches of rose-gold leaf appear as scattered berries, catching the light and adding warmth. The detailing is painterly rather than decorative — inviting closer looking.

The seat is upholstered in one of my own rich velvet designs, Edge of Autumn in soft stone. The warm neutral ground anchors the piece, allowing the autumnal tones and gestural movement of the artwork to sing. The painted leaves of the frame are echoed within the fabric, creating a quiet dialogue between surface and seat.

Rooted in the history of the Bergère yet unmistakably contemporary, this chair sits at the intersection of furniture and art. Confident in shape, colour and hand-finished detail, it brings presence, personality and painterly impact to a space — a statement piece for interiors that value individuality, craft and expression.
