Paint a landscape with a totally fearless unruly foreground

This super-energetic workshop is all about the foreground stealing the show — big, loose, unruly weeds, florals, tangled twines… the stuff most folk avoid or overthink. Not in here.

We’re going to whip up a frenzy on the canvas — bold marks, gutsy colour, layers, scratches, flicks… letting the foreground lead and the landscape fall into place around it.

Acrylics (eek I know!) ... not my normal choice of medium but this will allow you to create a gutsy foreground with no fear of mud.

If you’ve ever found yourself shrinking back, playing safe, or leaving the foreground a bit… meh… this is where that stops.

Come ready to:

• Loosen right up (and then some)
• Let go of overthinking
• Get a bit messy
• Create a landscape that actually feels alive

Materials

Everything is provided.

Surface, paint, texture mediums - just need to bring brushes, any tools you enjoy, reference material (or just paint totally intuitively) and an open mind. 

What to expect

Building bold, untamed foregrounds in acrylic:
• frees you up to paint big, loose and unapologetic
• shifts the focus from “nice” to alive
• lets you layer, scribble, flick and drag paint with intent
• brings movement, energy and a bit of chaos to your work
• stops you overthinking every mark

It’s gutsy.
It’s expressive.
It’s a bit feral (in the best way).

You’ll spend the day whipping up a foreground frenzy — weeds, florals, tangled lines and wild marks — letting the painting emerge through layers, disruption and instinct… until something clicks and it all comes alive.

Suitable for -  adventurous beginners right through to experienced artists looking to loosen up and create more energetic, exciting landscapes.

No need to be “good” — just brave enough to have a go
